Gareth Jones will be representing Scenario Films and Babylon at the European Film Market in Berlin between 10th and 15th February.

The Berlin Film Festival sees the latest in a run of successes from Babylon’s female alumni.  Tunisian writer-director Raja Amari’s new film Foreign Body (Jassad gharib) will screen under the Forum section from February 15-19, following its avant-première at Toronto IFF last year.   Raja Amari participated with this project at the first edition of Babylon in 2007 and we are delighted her film is now being launched on the big screen.

Starring Hiam Abbass, Sarra Hannachi and Salim Kechiouche, Foreign Body tells a compelling story of migrancy and assimilation.   Samia is from Tunisia and has arrived in France illegally, barely surviving the journey across the Mediterranean. But arriving in a new society is fraught with obstacles: How do you lose your status as a foreign body?   The story traces the nuances of Samia’s relationships with fellow-newcomer Imed and wealthy bourgeois widow Mme Berteau, for whom she works as a maid. Within the web of attraction and dependency that develops between the three characters, the camera always keeps close to Samia, making tangible just how urgently she seeks to take her fate in her own hands.

The film was produced by Dora Bouchoucha of Nomadis Images, and Dominique Besnehard of Mon Voisin Productions.
